The new Jetta is larger

The new Jetta has been transformed from the Bora to the Jetta with great leap not only in design but also in terms of interior and exterior dimensions. The new Jetta is 4.55 metres long (+ 17.8 cm). The width is 1.78 metres (+ 4.6 cm), the height 1.46 metres (+ 1.3 cm). Like the length, the wheelbase has been increased to 2.58 metres (+ 6.5 cm). The additional centimetres mainly benefit the rear passengers, who gain an extra 6.5 centimetres of legroom.

It has grown so much that it's about the same size (width wise) as the Honda Accord Euro, the Subaru Liberty and the Mercedes C class.

Jetta a deleactable small car

James Healy from USAtoday test drove the Jetta and this is what he says:

"If there's a more entertaining, satisfying, easy-to-drive small car than the 2006 Volkswagen Jetta, one that also can match Jetta's high-class feel inside ... well, there isn't one in the same price range.
Jetta has some of the delightful personality of the Audi A3 (Test Drive, July 29). No surprise. Audi is VW's luxury brand, and the A3 uses hardware similar to Jetta's, though the Audi looks different and is priced higher.

Jetta is the best-selling VW in the USA. No small matter, then, when it's redesigned. Jetta was enlarged, given a standard five-cylinder engine, instead of four-cylinder, and graced with sweeping style that resembles the larger, pricier, also recently redesigned VW Passat.

No small matter, either, that previous Jettas (and other VWs) have had quality problems, including ignition and power-window malfunctions. VW says those were solved and don't carry over to the new design.

"The company has really focused on improving each new generation of vehicles. We're seeing drastically improved quality," measured by reduced warranty claims and other VW internal criteria, spokesman Clark Campbell says.

In one test car, the latch failed to engage on the rear-seat pass-through door to the trunk. In another, the overhead sunglasses holder was jammed, though that easily could have been the work of some ham-fisted previous user rather than a component failure.

Buying a Jetta is a bet that VW has resolved the bugs that have landed the previous-generation Jetta (plus the New Beetle and the Passat V-6 wagon) on Consumer Reports magazine's list of cars with "multiple years of much-worse-than-average" reliability scores."

My Jetta is finally on the production line!!!

After contacting Volkswagen Australia via my lease provider, they have assured me that my Jetta is being built and it's on the production line. A more specific date can be set as soon as the car is on the ship to be delivered to Australia.

My only problem with Volkswagen and Volkswagen Australia is their poor mamagement in supply chain.

Firstly this should have been forcast correctly and the cars shipped to a level where their is enough stock for the majority of buyers. Without the huge waiting times.

Secondly, the car was marketed whilst there were low amount of stock in their inventory. With a waiting list now stretching up to 12 months on some models, you should ask the question, do you really want a Volkswagen?

Considering this is my first Volkswagen, I hope this is not a reflection of the entire Volkswagen management. Very very poor and if I knew how long it was going to take I would have purchased a Honda Accord Euro or a Subaru Liberity. At least I will be driving the car now rather than the hassles of making arrangement with my current lease vehicle and now waiting 6 months for my car to arrive. As I have waited sooooo long, I have decided to continue with another 3 months. If there is further delays from what I was quoted I will definately cancel my order.

One final word, don't ever buy your car at the Five Dock Volkswagen dealership in Sydney Australia. I visited the dealership back in March and they have the worst customer service level available.

The only affordable European car in the market

Did you know that the new Jetta is larger and is now marketed against the Honda Accord Euro (Acura TSX), the Mazda 6 and the Subaru Liberty in Australia. Unlike the previous model (BORA) which was marketed against BMW and Audi, the newer change in strategy gives it a better advantage as it is the only European car targeting a market dominated by Japanese model. It looks like Volkswagen are set for mass volume just like Honda.

And being European is where its haert lies. Remember, Volkswagen owns Audi and the current advertisement about the car looking more expensive than it is, is true. The front grille is really cool.

Why the Jetta?

The 2006 Jetta is completely new and its bigger than the former car called the Bora.
Yes, the name does sound boring and according to Volkswagen Australia, the former model only sold 350 units in 2005. What a flop and very poor marketing management by Volkswagen Australia. Yes the price was expensive for a underpowered 2L engine with limited rear seating.

The new Jetta is bigger and better and now with a new marketing strategy its is real winner.

Ordered my Jetta in March 2006

I order my Volkswagen Jetta in March 2006 and I'm still waiting for it. It was to be delivered on the 15th May and this has since been moved to August 2006. So where is my Jetta!!!!!
